Summary:  The Parenting Specialist is responsible for enhancing child and family well-being by promoting positive parent-child relationships, providing parent education, and coaching parents as they practice learned skills. The Parenting Specialist will participate in group or home based services for parents or caregivers that focuses on core areas of parenting skills to include: nurturing and attachment, child care and safety, health and nutrition, child growth and development, positive discipline, and parental and family resilience.


Education:  Bachelor's Degree in a human-services field (Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, etc.) is preferred. All degree levels may be considered with relevant experience.


Experience:  Experience working with behavioral programs, counseling, and/or skills training is required without a degree and preferred with a degree.


Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.


  • Assist with Intercept's prevention and integrated service delivery efforts with other community providers.
  • Ensure that program trainings are provided through a mixture of knowledge-based and skill-building exercises within individual and group sessions. (Exercises may include role-playing, case simulations, and other experiential learning techniques).
  • Monitor training and services provided to clients on an ongoing basis to ensure client needs are met and aligned with program goals, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure service delivery best practices within the program through advising the Program Director and Supervisors on training program gaps and needs.
  • Complete and maintain in a timely manner high quality documentation of all case work consistent with outlined program policies and licensure requirements.
  • Provide service coordination with referring social workers and all other involved professionals to ensure service continuity.
  • Assist Child Welfare Specialists and Supervisors in the assessment of clients' parenting skills, abilities, and functioning
  • Coordinate referrals for parent education classes, in-home parent coaching, parent support groups, and other meetings as needed.
  • Assess parents' needs and strengths as well as their ability to apply the knowledge and techniques learned to their parent-child relationships through on going assessments, observation, and interviews.
  • Facilitate client sessions using the nurturing parenting and other recommended curriculum.
  • Participate in and, as appropriate lead, staff trainings and seminar presentations.
