Summary:  The Director of Residential Services is responsible for the management of Residential DBHDS Programs within Intercept Youth Services. The Director implements all components of the program, oversees staff management, ensures regulatory compliance, and continuously seeks to improve and enhance client services. The Director provides strategic planning and new program development and implementation.

Education:   A minimum of a Master's Degree in a Human Services field (Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, etc.) Must be licensed by the State of Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Experience:  At least five years post graduate experience working with children in a mental health residential facility. A minimum of two years of group home management administration or mental health residential facility supervisory experience required. Experience with substance abuse and IDD services preferred.

Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.


  • Lead the Residential Services program meeting client/community and referring agency needs.
  • Establish and ensure compliant policies, procedures, and recordkeeping as stipulated by Intercept, licensing agencies, funding entities, and local, federal, and state entities.
  • Develop and manage the program's budget. Help design the program's budget, and set service fees. Ensure all billing for services rendered are accurate.
  • Establish and administer program evaluations (to include reviewing licensing audit information) to gather information about the program's impact and make program adjustments as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with other Intercept departments: to ensure wrap around services for clients and their families, to ensure community/referral agency outreach and advocacy, and to ensure financial and human resource compliance.
  • Maintain Residential Services compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory and licensing agency requirements, including maintaining review-ready status.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Ensure the treatment approach used for Residential Services is cohesive and consistent with the program's philosophy and policy.
  • Establish positive working relationships with other community agencies that refer and support the children, youth and adults served by Residential Services (i.e. community boards or councils).
  • Oversee clinical supervision and guidance for staff that develop and ensure treatment plan administration based on recommended goals identified for clients.
  • Provide mental health counseling and/or co-leading clinically-oriented groups.
  • Patient reporting, maintaining the highest quality clinical records and case management standards
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Hire employees based on Intercept values/policies and procedures, licensing agencies, funding entities, local, state, federal requirements.
  • Supervising, planning and facilitating a wide range of treatment groups integrated within the overall treatment program.
  • Orient, train, counsel, and supervise employees to ensure they have the information, technology, and reference materials necessary to produce exceptional job performance.
  • Delegate work to staff. Evaluate and develop staff to meet program needs as appropriate.
  • Oversee the timely submittal of staff work schedules and timesheets. Approve requests for leave based on Intercept policy/procedure.
  • Conduct regular documented supervision of individual program managers.
  • Audit all clinical information produced internally and externally.
  • Oversee the admission process for all referrals to the Residential Services program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
