Risk Manager

Full-Time/Salaried/Exempt

Summary: The Role of the Risk Manager will be to implement and maintain the functions and activities of a Risk Prevention and Management Program that complies with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The focus of the Risk Prevention and Management Program is to provide an ongoing, comprehensive, and systematic approach to reducing risk exposure. Risk Management activities include identifying, investigating, analyzing, and evaluating risks followed by implementing the most appropriate methods for correcting, reducing, managing, and/or eliminating risks. The Risk Manager is responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating the outcomes of the Annual Risk Management Plan.

Education/Experience- Bachelor's degree required with previous risk management experience in behavioral health services or equivalent.  Experience working with programs licensed by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services in an organization accredited by the Council of Accreditation is preferred.  

Duties and Responsibilities

The Risk Manager provides leadership and guidance to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor risks that may result in harm to Intercept.  Risk related activities and outcomes are coordinated and evaluated through the Risk Committee, which is chaired by the Risk Manager.

As part of the Risk Prevention and Management Program, the Risk Manager coordinates the completion of annual risk assessments in the following areas:

  • Legal requirements
  • Technology and information management
  • Insurance and liability
  • Health and safety of administrative and service environments
  • Human Resources practices
  • Contracting practices and compliance
  • Client rights and confidentiality issues
  • Financial risks
  • Public relations, branding, and reputation
  • Conflicts of interest
  • High Risk policies and procedures

Under the guidance and leadership of the Risk Manager, the Risk Committee evaluates the results of the annual risk assessments and prepares an annual Risk Management Plan. The annual plan identifies selected areas of risks and specific strategies to mitigate or eliminate the risk.  Risk activities and outcomes are reported quarterly to the Performance & Quality Improvement Team.

The Risk Manager reviews all incidents and conducts a Root Cause Analysis of any event that results in or had the potential to result in death or permanent impairment to an individual.  A Mortality Review is conducted by the Risk Manager of any unexpected and/or unexplained death.  Incident data is analyzed quarterly, and trends are reported to Senior and Program Leadership.

The Risk Manager ensures that policies and procedures related risk and incident reporting remain current and reflect requirements of licensing and accreditation agencies.

Under the guidance of the Director of Risk Management/Performance Improvement, develops effective plans to respond to natural disasters and other emergencies.

Other duties may be assigned as needed.
