Community Homes Staff Supervisor


Education/Experience:Bachelors degree plus 2 or more years of full time experience in human service field at least 1 of which is in a children's residential facility; High school diploma plus 5 or more years experience in the human service field with at least 2 of which in a children's residential facility

SUMMARY: Supervise direct care staff, including performance evaluations, scheduling, and disciplinary issues.  Perform and supervise the delivery of Resident care under the direction of the Program Manager.  Serve as a positive role model for Residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Serve as requested on employee selection team, evaluating prospective staff members and making recommendations as needed.
  • Orient new direct care staff to the program.
  • Schedule direct care staff for program coverage while maintaining staffing expectations (regular and overtime hours within budgetary guidelines).
  1. One full-time employee shall be scheduled for no less than one shift for each day of the weekend.
  2. Every reasonable effort shall be made to schedule at least one full-time employee for each shift.
  • Shall familiarize ones self with Intercept Youth Services' policies and procedures and be able to address staff related concerns in an informal manner.
  • Secure staff to cover vacancies in schedule due to staff absences and no-shows.  In the event this in not possible, responsibility for coverage lies with Staff Supervisor.
  • Complete employee performance evaluations for all direct reports.
  • Clearly communicate and uphold program priorities and needs, including positive communication of these priorities and needs to direct reports.
  • Provide direction, encouragement, and training to direct care staff in the performance of their duties.


  • Staff Supervisors are required to work no less than 2 weekend shifts each month; shift are not to be scheduled consecutively in the same day (i.e. a double on Saturday would count as 1 shift).
  • Staff Supervisors are to work no less than 3 evening shifts during each week (Monday Friday).
  • Staff Supervisors are required to participate in weekly treatment team meetings.
  • Take lead role and full responsibility for overall program day-to-day function and participation of residents, making adjustments as needed to maintain safe, healthy environment
  • Exercise appropriate interventions in accordance with the least restrictive alternative to protect Resident from harming self or others.
  • Facilitate Resident community meetings.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication of pertinent Resident care information among all staff (i.e. debriefing, staff log, weekend review).
  • Notify appropriate staff of unusual events, injuries, special precautions, etc.
  • Coordinate Resident medical care as needed, and notify the Program Manager and Clinician of Resident medical complaints.
  • Communicate Resident issues to Program Manager and Clinician.
  • Participate in Treatment Team reporting on milieu and resident treatment needs, goals and progress.
  • Collaborate with treatment team to routinely change goals and strategies in meeting Resident care needs, plan care, make appropriate interventions and re-evaluate the effectiveness of interventions


  • Supervise direct care staff in the delivery of Resident emotional, social and physical care.
  • Support and assist Program Manager in any duties needed to preserve the quality of the program.
  • Ensure facility is maintained in a very clean and organized manner, taking immediate action to keep this as a top priority.
  • Assist in the admission and discharge of Residents.
  • Generate incident reports when appropriate, and ensure timely, accurate completion by staff.
  • Ensure proper, safe storage of supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure all staff protect the interest of the residents and the program by addressing any safety or security issue immediately, both on the grounds and in the community.
  • Correct and report potential safety hazards to the Program Manager.
  • Communicates with referral sources and planning agencies in absence of Program Manager or Clinician, with professionalism in all interactions.
  • Take full responsibility for vehicle maintenance issues, checking them weekly and servicing them as needed 
  • Address house maintenance issues in Treatment Team.  If immediate action is needed, correct problem or notify the Program Manager of crisis.
  • Ensure that prescribed regular fire safety expectations are met and meet any other safety guideline needed for safe operation.
  • Purchase food according to prepared menu, and ensure that food and cleaning supplies are kept in adequate supply without over stocking.


  • Record accurate and complete information in Resident record.
  • Ensure daily notes reflect coordination with progress towards treatment plan goals.
  • Review Resident records, noting and coordinating resolution of charting deficiencies.
