Behavioral Support Specialist Full-Time; Hourly; Non-Exempt

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related human services field; At least one year clinical experience working with children or adolescents. Must be QMHP-C

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following- Other duties may be assigned:

Provide direct care supervision; chart and record services rendered in accordance with agency standards.

Conduct daily living skills assessments and prepare written reports. Serve as a facilitator for psycho-educational groups.

Assist youth with the identification, development and implementation of healthy coping skills by developing Individualized Behavior Support Programs (IBSPs) tailored specifically to address challenging behavior which presents as a barrier to discharge; IBSPs must be approved by the Program Manager and Clinical Manager prior to implementation.

Collect and record data relevant to the youth's progress on IBSP goals and report weekly during treatment team meetings. Conduct, arrange, or broker the necessary services and supports for each resident in accordance with the approved IBSP.

Familiarize self with resident treatment plans and plan activities to complement resident needs. Familiarize self with resident strengths and weaknesses in leisure skills, socialization, motor development and physical condition and plan activities to compliment resident needs.

Participate in community meetings, and review resident progress with Resident Counselors, Resident Staff Supervisor, Program Manager and Clinical Manager to determine appropriate activities and events.

Participate in weekly Treatment Team meetings, reporting on resident daily living skills needs and as indicated, IBSP goals and progress. Initiate and supervise activities within the daily and weekly schedules that promote healthy chooses and daily living skills development.

DIRECT CARE:

Interact with all residents in accordance with the treatment plan and the therapeutic process.

Maintain therapeutic relationships which do not allow self-disclosure of personal or social information to residents. Terminate resident/staff relationship upon resident's discharge.

Accompany and directly supervise residents on outings, activities and appointments in the community. Exercise appropriate intervention in accordance with the least restrictive alternative to protect resident from harming self or others.

Facilitate resident community meetings.

Administer first aid to resident in response to minor medical problems.

Notify Resident Staff Supervisor and/or Program Manager of any significant resident medical complaint. Notify Resident Staff Supervisor and/or Program Manager of any unusual events, accidents, medical problems, etc.

Guide residents in personal hygiene techniques and the proper care of their rooms.

Exercise fair, firm and consistent use of behavioral system. Administer medications as appropriate.

Record accurate and complete information in the resident chart. Assist residents in meal preparation steps. Guide, instruct, and assist residents in proper housekeeping and laundry procedures; supervise and assist with completion of daily chores.

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION:

Initiate organizational steps needed during the shift to plan weekend activities and follow daily schedule.

Inform co-workers of concerns and issues related to meeting program expectations and/or resident needs during shift.

Serve on Treatment Team, attend meetings and contribute to the development of the program and how it relates to each resident=s treatment needs.

Regularly work on weekends for program continuity, ensuring consistent application of program rules, expectations and philosophies.

MILIEU:

Work no less than four weekend shifts each month; shifts are not to be scheduled consecutively in the same day (i.e. a double on Saturday would count as one shift).

Work no less than two evening shifts during the week (Monday - Friday).

Required attendance in weekly treatment team meetings.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current Virginia Driver's License and a favorable driving record is required (no more than 2 moving violations and one at-fault accident in the last 3 years; no DUIs in the last 5 years).
